I've been working as a linguist for a long time. When people hear that, the first thing they ask is, "How many languages do you know?" I do love learning languages, but my work is more focused on how people learn and use (any) languages to communicate. 

In 2003, I founded Eureka Language Services to provide SPAN>ENG translation, copy-editing, captioning, and custom English materials and tutoring for professionals & exchange students. I have also taught English at schools in China, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Ohio. 

Currently, I'm a doctoral candidate in Linguistics at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, studying Indigenous language documentation with a focus on teacher-linguist collaboration and materials creation for endangered language revitalization. My documentation fieldwork has focused on Bitterroot Salish in Montana and Woleaian in Hawai'i.

Outside of grad school, I also work on two more long-term documentation projects: Americana folk music in pub sessions, and stories of the Waikiki Beachboys Canoe Club.  None of this work could happen without the many kind people who have shared their knowledge and skills along the way. Thank you!
