Woleaian Project
Woleaian Project
This project began in Dr. Bradley McDonnell's 2021-2022 fieldwork courses at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, working with Woleaian language consultant Mr. Lenny Saumar and colleagues on a grammar sketch and corpus. I have continued worked with Lenny on a study of Woleaian orthographies. And I've been working with Mr. Dominic Taruwemai Taiwer Jr. on an extensive study of Woleaian watercraft, marine ecology, and
related cultural practices. Project goals include publishing my dissertation based on this documentation, training language consultants to continue
the work directly, and creating materials in order to support revitalization of the Woleaian language.

In 2022-2023, I worked with Dr. James "Woody" Woodward on project documenting HCMCSL from Deaf signers in Vietnam.
We analyzed signs for morphosyntax, then transcribed and 'alphabetized' dictionary entries. The draft manuscript is awaiting community review.
